The UFT Charter School English Department strives to prepare all students for a rigorous and demanding education in the Humanities. Our focus is to develop the skills students will require to be successful scholars and upstanding citizens in their community. Our daily class instruction serves to develop student skills in vocabulary acquisition and use, reading comprehension, writing composition, synthesis of information from various sources, and thoughtful analysis in the reading and writing process. As students develop the ability to engage in academic discourse, they will practice skills that are necessary in all parts of their educational careers. Our main goal is to have students fluent in the English Language Arts and appreciative of all the opportunities that these vital communication skills will offer them as functional democratic citizens in society.
